Our primary objective is to ensure people's well-being by offering services that help "keep the environment clean" around us. Protecting the quality of soil and sea is intended to improve living conditions in line with Target 3.9, which aims to "substantially reduce the number of deaths and illnesses from hazardous chemicals and air, water, and soil pollution by 2030." According with the United Nations, water is the element through which people will feel the impacts of climate change the most. For this reason, we are proud to help to solve a wide range of water treatment problems through our technologies and the services we offer to our customers. In fact, our cleaning operations and our Port Reception Facility allow to recover large amounts of water which is purified and then returned to the environment. Our operations are therefore in line with Target 6.3 which aims to "improve water quality by reducing pollution, eliminating dumping and minimizing the release of hazardous. chemicals and materials, halving the proportion of untreated wastewater and substantially increasing recycling and safe reuse globally by 2030." In line with Target 7.2, which aims to "substantially increase the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix by 2030," we have invested in significant "green" technological improvements, including photovoltaic power generation plants and the fully electric vessel Elettra for collecting waste from ships in ports. As a matter of fact In recent years, we’ve installed photovoltaic plants on our premises for a total nominal power of approximately 130 kW. This capacity will be increased in the coming years. Furthermore, since 2021 we treat water by using 100% of renewable energy, in part generated by our own photovoltaic plant and in part acquired by a supplier which certify us its provenience fully from renewable sources. These certificates of origin are available and can be downloaded directly from our website www.sepor.it. In addition to the full electric vessel Elettra, in recent years we have begun a gradual process of updating our fleet of company vehicles by purchasing new, less polluting units. As a matter of fact we have replaced some of our most polluting vehicles, in terms of CO2 emissions, with Euro 6 vehicles and with hybrid-powered vehicles. The objective we aim to is the progressive replacement of our internal combustion engine terrestrial and maritime fleets with hybrid or electric units only.

More than 20% of our suppliers are located in the province of La Spezia, generating over 1 million euros in economic value distributed locally. Our operations supports Target 8.2: " achieve higher levels of productivity of economies through diversification, technological upgrading and innovation, including through a focus on high value added and labor-intensive sectors". In line with Target 9.5 "Strengthen the scientific and technological capacity of industrial sectors by encouraging innovation" we’ve created a state of the art Port Reception Facility in the Port of La Spezia that we inaugurated in April 2021. This is a waste treatment and disposal plant that can manage up to 83,000 tons of liquid waste and up to 6,000 tons of solid waste per year which are originated in large proportion from the port traffics. This platform represents the evolution of the first Port Reception Facility we built in the late 1980s and which, for several years, has been the first and only port reception facility for liquid waste disposal in any Italian ports.

We fully supports Target 12.4: "By 2020, achieve the environmentally sound management of chemicals and all wastes throughout their lifecycle, in accordance with agreed international frameworks, and significantly reduce their release to air, water, and soil to minimize their adverse impacts on human health and the environment.” and we apply these principles in our daily operations.

In order to support Targets 13.2 ("Integrate climate change measures into policies and planning") and 13.3 ("improve education, awareness raising and human and institutional capacity on climate change mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction, and early warning ") we are committed to further reducing our GHG emissions. By gradually increasing the use of renewable energy, we aim to reduce our impact on the global climate and by sharing our data and environmental performances through our website we aim to sensibilize our stakeholders to a more sustainable culture and behaviors. In 2021, we drafted our first GHG inventory according to the guidelines of the GHG Protocol. In 2022, we updated it with new data and extended it to include Scope3 emissions. These steps allowed us to identify the most significant sources of emission and to define a strategy to reduce them. Material topics: A4 (Emissions into the atmosphere) and (Climate change).

“By 2025, prevent and significantly reduce marine pollution of all kinds, particularly from land-based activities, including marine debris and nutrient pollution”. we pursue this target daily through our operations of cleaning contaminated water and collecting solid and liquid waste from ships and from the sea surface. Furthermore in 2021 we contributed to the "Clean up the world" event, an environmental volunteer campaign to clean up abandoned waste from streets, city parks, beaches and river banks, with the aim of defending the environment and strengthening sense of community.
